Reverse Mortgage Workshop

October 24, 2017 –  9:00 AM to Noon

Northshore Catholic Services

4465 Hwy 190 East Service Road, Covington, LA

The St. Tammany SALT Council and Gulf Coast Bank and Trust are partnering to present this workshop on Reverse Mortgages.  This presentation is designed to address concerns about this financial tool, give you a good grasp on what the mortgage process is designed to do, and help you identify potential unethical or fraudulent efforts that have caused the controversy about these mortages.

Gulf Coast Bank is a long-time partner with the SALT Council and they have expressed a commitment to inform Seniors rather than simply provide a marketing presentation.  The presenters will stress how to find a competent source for mortgages and how to use the safeguards provided by law and by honest institutions.

The event will begin with sign-in starting at 9:00 AM.  Light breakfast refreshments will be provided and the presentation will begin at 9:30.  There will be a short break during the workshop and it will then conclude by Noon.

Space is limited, so pre-registration is required.  Register by calling the SALT Council Event Line at 985-809-5455 or click HERE to register online.

Registration will close at 5:00 PM October 22nd.

medicare fraud Workshop

November 15, 2017 –  10:00 AM to 1:30 PM

Slidell City Auditorium

2056 2nd Street – Slidell, LA

The St. Tammany SALT Council and Louisiana Senior Medicare Patrol are partnering to present a workshop on Medicare Fraud and Abuse, including scams related to the new Medicare cards to be distributed in 2018. The event will be held September 15th from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the Slidell City Auditorium, 2056 2nd Street in Slidell.

The event is part of the continuing series of workshops presented by SALT to help St. Tammany Senior Adults understand the fraud, abuse and waste that occurs within the Medicare program.  The issuance of new Medicare cards that will not be tied to Social Security numbers is already resulting in scams that mark Seniors with potential for financial exploitation and identity theft.  This is a new area for scammers, and they are already making significant efforts to defraud Seniors.  Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) is a long-time partner that has excellent information and resources to help Medicare recipients should they have concerns about their benefits.

The event is possible because of a donation to the SALT Council by Peoples Health.  It will start at 10:00 AM with sign-in and a light mid-morning snack with PJ’s coffee followed by the first hour of the presentation starting at 10:30. There will be a break for lunch from Dickey’s BBQ at 11:30 followed by the last ½ hour presentation by SMP at 12:15.  There will be drawings for door prizes and then Peoples Health will discuss the Medicare Advantage program they offer.  The event will finish by 1:30 PM.

The SALT Council, SMP and Peoples Health encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to learn how to protect yourself and safeguard the Medicare program.

Space is limited, so pre-registration is required. Those who want to attend may either register by calling the SALT Council Event Line at 985-809-5455, or register online by clicking HERE

Registration will close at 5:00 PM November 13th.
