Saving Our Seniors (“SOS”) –

The St. Tammany SALT Council is the most active advocate against Elder Abuse in Louisiana.  The advocacy includes Elder Abuse training for professionals presented throughout the year, in addition to the annual conference presented each year in June.  There are currently three training programs that we support, conduct or produce.

Abuse in Later Life Training for Law Enforcement:

This program is a 1-day 8-hour program for law enforcement officers, DA and Coroner Investigators and other law enforcement personnel.  The instructor teams is comprised of a law enforcement officer, a prosecutor, an advocate, an Adult Protective Services case worker and a facilitator. The training was designed at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), so it is recognized nationally as a standard for training law enforcement personnel.

If you want your agency to receive this free training, contact the SALT Council at 985-809-5450 or by e-mail at info@stsalt.org. The SALT Council will then contact you to arrange the training.

Elder Abuse College:

This program was developed for facilities where Senior Adults reside or spend extensive periods of time.  Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, Retirement Facilities, Councils on Aging and other similar organizations can take advantage of the training.

The “College” includes eight (8) 45-minute classes taught over the course of the year.  The class have college-like designations beginning with Elder Abuse 101, Elder Abuse 102, etc., through Elder Abuse 402.  The classes are structured to provide basic Elder Abuse awareness training all employees, including kitchen, maintenance, housekeeping and landscaping.  The employees learn the critical issues of identification and recognition and the laws regarding mandatory reporting.

If you are interested in this training for your organization, contact the SALT Council at 985-809-5450 or by e-mail at info@stsalt.org. The SALT Council will then contact you to arrange the training.
